After seeing a couple other teams start then stop making a wild west mod, Im slowly working on one myself. Curently since its a solo project Im using whatever guns I can scrounge that fit the theme or are close enough. I would like to call out to the community for assistance in making this mod something worth posting for others to play. Here is whats needed people wise.
Mappers, need western themed maps IE small town with one main street. Stable, Saloon, Jail, all the usual buildings seen in a cowboy town. Other map ideas are mine shafts, cattle ranch and so on.
Modelers, Need weapons like single and dual revolvers, sawn off double barrel shotgun pistol, coach gun shotgun, 1887 style shotgun, several lever action rifles, Sharps rifle with scope, Bowie knife, tomohawks, Bow with arrows, stick of dynomite, and other weapons as needed. Also need new characters, cowboys, Indians, Rustlers, town folk and so on.
Scripting, Looking for a totally different bot behavior where they will walk around and not be in combat mode all the time. Once a player or other teams bot gets within a certain range they will engage, but until then they wander around or stand in a central location.
If anyone wants to contribute weapons, maps, characters, bot scripting, or anything please let me know. Once I get at least 1 map, and at least 1 pistol, 1 shotgun, 1 rifle, and one sniper rifle, I will release a mod beta version.

Unfortunately, we don't have that level of control over the bots.

As of right now my bots are set so they walk around and actually will move to the flags and try to cap but will not fire until they are within 12 feet from another enemy bot. at first I had it set too low on the fire amount and they would just stand next to enemy bots and not do anything lol. I adjusted the range of the AI for the shotgun all bots use, to the 12 foot mark.

It works pretty well so far, but I need more weapons and I really need proper uniforms and attire for both sides. I also need a good map that will showcase the close range timid scale fighting. This isnt really a fast paced singler player mod, its more layed back letting the player pick and choose his targets. which for me is fine since sometimes I just prefer a casual game vs constant running, diving and shooting.

Oh, I thought you wanted to be able turn the bots aggression on and off dynamically during gameplay. Sure, you can tone down the bot's aggression like you said -- but your bots will be neutered for the whole game.

Yeah getting the balance of the bots took some back and forth tweaks. The shotgun Im using was one I downloaded as a pack with the double desert eagles. I am using the 1887 shotgun and dual DE til I can can get a good double barrel shotgun and some six guns. I am using the M16a2 for my rifle and the M24 as the sniper. The M24 has a single round magazine so the load time makes it like using a Sharps. M16a2 is the Lever gun for now and has a 10 round mag. Pistol wise Im using the double DE as a placeholder for dual 6 guns, and the M92FS as the placeholder for the single action 6gun. Map wise I havnt made maps for BF2, but have done them in the past for BF1942. Im hoping that BF3 will be good enough to recreate all this into but BF2 will be on my hard drive for many years, much like Duke Nukem 3D.

Sorry, but DICE has allready announced that there will be no mod support for BF3. BF3 uses the new Frostbite 2 game engine which does not lend itself to mod support like the refractor game engine did for other Battlefield games.

So in otherwords they decided to pull an EA and hammer out a Fire and Forget game to rake in cash. They just lost my potential money for the game and countless others. BF series has allways been a modder friendly series so I guess they dont care about us who want to keep a game alive with fresh content. Even more reason to keep working on my mods. My main focus mod wise is this Wild West mod, 80s Cold War, Beefalo's Funhouse, 19thID, and my tweaks on other mods.

If you want bots to stand around until your in range, set the idle in ai behaviors to be the second highest, and fire being the highest. They will stand where they spawn until they see you then engange and hunt you down.

Well, it was untill EA bough DICE after BF2 was released. Then they stopped all mod support. Oddly enough, that's also when I stopped buying their games too.

Just a coincidence

EA killed everything related to mod support for BF2 and BF2142. It was also the time that the mod coordinator for BF2, Lawrence Brown was reassigned - not to be heard from again. Forum support from other DICE employees (power poker and Outsider) stopped as well. Debugger and editor support for BF2142 was killed (the mod coordinator had previously stated that mod support for BF2142 would be released later on). No new booster packs for BF2 or BF2142 were released. BF2142 only had 1 booster pack, more were probably planned. Surely, the only reason that DICE was allowed to spend time working on a 1.5 patch for Bf2 and BF2142 was to make the games to be sold on Steam and possibly other download outlets.

The

face was my attempt of sarcasm, guess I executed it wrong. Its no coincidence, DICE has gone downhill.

EA has a way of pissing off customers, they kill things so they can puke out another fire and forget game. Motor City Online, Earth & Beyond, Sims Online, are just a few that got murdered to make EA rich. Why cut a game thats making money.
I stil need help from anyone who has Mods or pieces from unfinished mods to include Cowboy guns, and maps. Or if anyone can free hand em.

Back to the Wild West mod, BFSolo has a ton of old-style lever actions and stuff. You should consider looking there.

Thanks I found the Henry rifle on that site though everything was in french I was able to get it. So far here are the weapons scrounged from other mods that work. Not to mention one that doesnt that would need tweaks anyway.
1887 Shotgun (short)
1897 shotgun (long)
Henry Silver
Henry Brass
For now Im using a modified M24 as the sniper rifle but its a single shot with normal reload mag wise. I tried to get the SingleActionArmy from the OPDD mod but cannot seem to get it to work. Besides its got some major flaws, then again so do the Henry rifles.
Single Action Army problems. No front sight, no hammer notch or rear sight, when you fire it has a delay before it shoots to simulate the cocking of the hammer but will cause lots of miss. I would make it just a slower rate of fire to be more realistic and usable.
Henry Rifle problems. Very inaccurte and weak. Animation shows loading shells into the top of the gun, that is the ejection port and the loading is thru the loading gate on the side of most lever guns but the Henry loaded from a tube magazine at the end of the barrel. A twist opens the loading tube and shells drop right in. I improved the damage and accuracy but when zoomed the accuracy is still bad due to the iron sites, but makes it more interesting since when you do hit it takes 2 shots to kill. Missing more is more realistic for a wild west shoot out.
If anyone would be so kind as to either make it so I can use the OPDD six gun, or create one for me I would much appreciate it. Next item is perhaps a temp player model and use the OPDD human survivors or make a set of cowboy skins for 2 factions. Any help would be great and I can release a beta of this with the files showing credit for who actually made the weapons.

I dont suppose anyone has a BF2 port of this mod or would anyone like to help convert this mod. I will try to find my original BF1942 CDs so I can install and view this mod. But this looks like it was a good start and would love to see a BF2 Version. Its called Wester War.

Any luck in getting the BF42 western war mod to install. I got an error with the patch that It could not find the files to update (in french - I used google translate). A little strange to have french team creating a mod of old west in North America.

Well I took a look at ver 1.0 (I could not install the patch), but it's got everything you need for a wild west mod all done by one guy: An 1800 style old west fort; A fully fleshed out old west town, a useble train with a gatling gun on a flat car, useable horses, horse drawn wagon, a stationary gatling gun, teepees, cactus, totem poles, train station, gallows with a hanging man, 1800 style shotguns, pistols, rifle with 1800 sytle scope, fists, bow, thrown sticks of dynamite, and fists weapon.
The only things I saw that were not authentic looking was the the 1942 binoculars for the scout that still allows artillery targeting and the weapon icon for the health pack still showed a 1942 medkit, even though for health you use some sort of jug (maybe its a healing drink or whiskey?). Using a British flag for the cowboys was also strange looking. I just would have used plain red and blue flags to match the standard name tag colors.

Looks nice other than BF42 graphics, I have no idea how to convert BF42 to BF2, and think this would be a fun mod if done to BF2. I just have a hard time getting anything to work with the BF2 editor, I move most stuff around edit by hand but has to be an easy way to convert at least the guns and a set of player skins at least. Is there any way to strip the bags and gear from the player without having to edit the models.
I mostly only want the guns, but horses would be nice later on. Gatling gun could replace all emplaced guns and really love to see what the maps from that mod look like, cannot get any version to work with my version of BF42

Here are some more pics:
http://www.battlefieldsingleplayer.com/for...mp;#entry176718I wish there was a step by step tutorial around for converting between BF2 and BF42. I could use it myself.
BTW, this mod appears to be abandoned. PODI's website is gone and I could not find any way to contact him.

Shame, I think the Cowboy theme mod would be awesome and I would play it quite often. There are just so many modern mods now that its time for a change. Look at the 1918 mod and Pirates, they were out of the box and fun.
