I played the beta many months ago, but I just recently updated the newest version and played online. I can't believe they took all the good guns away from earned credit and are now money only. I guess something has too feed the commercial interest though, although it is funny killing in experienced people that have their characters all tricked out with only the default equipment.
Anyways it really made me want to play bf2 on some servers with a decent number of people.
Although some of the older maps redone, into some infantry only are kind of fun, like sharqi.

Its their model of micro transactions. I had my fun and I've moved on from BFP4F for the most part.
But the fun is owning the experienced people tricked out with equipment with default guns.

I only quit playing lately because I got sick of the same maps over and over. You're both right, though, about pwning tricked-out players. It's a wonderful feeling. Basically if I find myself in the middle of the scoreboard I consider myself successful. I figure people above me are actually better than me or are just cheating (and there are apparently a LOT of cheaters).

I'm extremely fortunate that I never came across any cheaters. All my games were legitimate players going for victory and not griefing. And a lot of memorable last minute rushes on Oman for the construction site to clinch victory.
My K/D ratio goes about 2.3, around 3rd or 4th scoreboard-wise, but I tend to get myself sacrificially killed a lot while my team rushes a flag as I run across the map drawing enemy fire.
And grenades are wonderful.

Too bad to hear about the loss of weapons on the "play for free" part. Haven't played much of this in a long time, and this development may kill this game for me and a co-worker (others as well).
If activity continues to stagnate for this section, then BFP4Free will go the way of the dino.
No offense bob.

I generally play for idea for bf2. Also you dont have to play too long to get enough credits to buy a 2nd tier free gun, but it only lasts 24 hours! Its like 500 credits for a 24hour tier 1 which is like ~3 good rounds.
But yeah the pay for whatever does really tick me off, but its the way of the game. It would be cheaper to buy access to all the weapons if it wasn't sold as a free game, with upgrades thru micro purchase. think about it 40-50$ versus 12x $10 purchases for all the elites special gear.
I'd love to see a bf2 port of some of basara and the sharqi infantry only maps.

I realy don't like battlefunds system and very expensive weapons. So it's play2win.
Hovever, I got good scores every round- 15+ kills minimum and about 4000- 6000 score. using cheapest AEK-971. my Record was 39 kills. I found so many bad players here. fast points game. Bad teamplay- make game bad....

I notice most FPS online games these days seem to be flooded by selfish idiotic players you like to play as rambo, stand there and shoot, don't take cover, don't help team mates, and only go for objective for more points to level up. That's why team base rewards imho are better than individual based reward systems.

ooh! goody, one of my pet hates. entering Rant Mode...

and therein lies the problem with multiplayer - "you are free to do your own thing, as long as it fits my view of what you should be doing"
in your mind, i'd be the selfish idiot who plays for his own enjoyment. in my mind, you'd be the annoying anus who's forgotten it's just a game and a game doesn't matter one single bit at the end of the day. i play games for fun. team games are more like work than fun. if i HAVE to be over there, i HAVE to use this, and i HAVE to do that, to me that's known as 'having a job' - pay me.
singleplayer rocks. LAN and closed multiplayer have their merits and offer some excellent fun, but open-to-all multiplayer is a cancer on the bowels of gaming. nobody wins in those games. there will always be someone who's doing something opposite to what the other players think is 'the right way to play the game'
just my 2c worth...

well, if you are playing competitively than yeah, team effort counts. lan game or even some mp servers can be more sand box ish, but most aren't set up that way. I agree that bf2 is very much set up for imaginative strategies or even BSing, but many games are not like that and are pretty linear objective based with some kind of level up reward system. I've had my fair share of playing with vehicles or map sections while the rest of the team was fighting, but I was actually referring to the team play in the more linear games like bfp4f, which has stripped some of that creative component away from bf2.

i realise i said 'you' several times in my previous post, but i'm not aiming directly at you, bob. my target is much more general, e.g. you should have read some of the stuff i saw posted on the EA BF3 forum (and i've seen similar stuff on other game forums too) - things like "players must be automatically assigned to a team as soon as they join" and "players who don't play in a team should have their accounts permanently banned" and the like. that is where my angst comes from - i abhor, detest, and urinate on that kind of narrow-minded rubbish. we lone-wolves paid our money for the game, just like everyone else did and to have some pompous uppity feck-knuckle wanting to ban me just because i picked a specops kit instead of medic really gets my blood boiling.
i personally believe the "everyone should be more like i am" syndrome is a very large part of what is wrong with the world in general, which is why i get so narky whenever i encounter it, but anyway, enough of my rabid drivel. on with the show.

Clive, you need to just mellow out and smell the roses, calm down..... try to be more like I am. in this thread..

wow. that's pretty bad.
hmmm this reminds me of some awesome lan games played in the past were we all mostly knew each other and just kind of F-ed around on the map. You could use a map that has a single of a specific vehicle like the helo on the hill in 16 zatar and just play keep away, or other silly games like that. One of the best mods (albiet it had no coop) for that was the french air mod which had crazy maps like aircraft carriers in the sky. and really bizzare escher like buildings where you could cross bow slide almost unlimited distances. Man... I need to make one of those type of mods.
There is also that "sand box mod", that sounds like garrys mod but for bf2, I've d/l like a million times but have yet to actually install it. I should try those out.
