battlefield 2142 vegetation question?

Has anyone figured out why the battlefield 2142 vegetation doesn't seem to look right in BF2?

Example*

replace the leaf_af_deadacacia_de_lod.dds with a renamed leaf_af_DeadAcacia_de_lod_alphatest.dds
then overwrite the original leaf_af_deadacacia_de_lod.dds with the renamed leaf_af_DeadAcacia_de_lod_alphatest.dds in the textures folder.
then the foliage will no longer be transparent and display in bf2 correctly.

i have to rename the texture file and link the mesh to new renamed texture?

maybe we should just make an effort/ project to convert all 2142 veg and statics to the bf2 freindly format so we can distribute it and let modders make new maps.
