So has anyone found a way to not have ported aircraft nose dive into the ground lol? Is there anything from BF1942 we could look at? I mean the AI had to pilot the large B17's, can something similar be done for the AC130? (Sorry edited original post and couldn't change title)

Short answer:

If our resident BF2 Aviation expert couldn't find a solution, then there isn't likely one. There are no bombers in default BF2, so there is no AI behavior to fit the bill. I believe Clive surmised that BF1942 AI code (which has bomber planes) isn't transferable to BF2.

Long answer:

Here is when Clive set out to build his AC-130, and his indepth analysis of wrestling with BF2's AI to try to perform well with a Bomber type aircraft.

simply put, if you give the pilot weapons then he will try to attack using those weapons by performing the standard attack maneuver for planes, which is not suitable in our case. giving the weapons to secondary PCOs brings its own problems.

yeah, BF1942 had a 'Level Bomber' behaviour i think it was called and a couple of other plane types, but in BF2 we simply have 'Airplane'
