Hi guys!

Been time i posted on mappers delight huh?

Well i think its about time, i recently had a new idea for a big buttocks map, i wondering i didnt had the idea already earlyer, i wana remap a location from one of the old tom clancey movies called "clear and present danger"
The old horses who are into those kind of movies of the late 90's might know what i mean, i am talking about rebuilding the scenario of the "operation reciprocity" where us special forces get sent to locate and destroy enemy drug depots and eliminate the bosses of a drugcartel... however thats for the story.
The plan is to remap all those locations located in an mexican jungle area which is basicly big as heck and i am still not sure how i get all the locations featured in the movie onto a 1024x2 map, but it should be possible with a downcut without putting cps to close to each other what i want to avoid if possible to keep the classical bf map conquest layout.

A part of the movie if someone is interested: Clear And Present Danger Scene

I made a little artistic concept drawing of how i can imagine the base layout of the map, its only realy rough but something like this. I would love to hear some suggestions or wishes from you guys, also check out some ingamescreens of the jungle map i am working aswell atm, the map will have the exact same colorsheme to it and maybe even a bit of rain to it, thought nothing to much what would lag the map of corse!

...how the enviroment and colorsheme will look in the final map:

Good to see JONES popping up in this section again! My only recommendation would be if this is indeed going to be a large scale map, that one of the versions (16/32/64) feature vehicles so foot-soldiers can traverse the map without too much interim between firefights (death + long walks to fights = boredom in arcade FPS).

A man falls out of a tenth-story window. As he lands, another man rushes over and asks, "What happened?" The fallen man exclaims, "I don't know. I just got here myself!"

hah actualy i wana focus on guerilla warfare on this map and no worries the controlpoints will be not to far from each other because the real thing wouldnt fit onto a 1024 at all tbh, to make this as real as possible it would require a scale 8 map i guess ^^ but thats for project reality hah i wana avoid our arcade audiance need to move to foot to long happy.gif
Basicly it will be like this:

...roundstart

...us starts from the carrier with three blackhawks and a few rib boats to the mainland

...the opposing force is in control of all controllpoints but the us landingzone (like in the movie it will be a high grass field inbetween a dense jungle)

...us needs to get to the landingzone to start up from there to get in control of all the other controlpoints to downsize the enemy forces!

should be good, always wanted to do a map like this, hell thats why i love mapping smile.gif you just need the right idea and its fun as hell to get this from paper to reality ^^

make it like oman, but a jungle setting instead of sparse industrial urban.

if its big it will need vehicles. if you want infantry fighting only, then either A: make a 16 or 32 version that is close together excluding the beach head assault, or B: make vehicles only able to access some places, but infantry fighting in areas vehicles cant get to. like p4f's myanmar map that has a temple area that vehicles shouldnt get to (but sometimes do) and allow for infantry only in critical areas.

Am watching "Clear and Present Danger" right now! Jack Ryan against the drug cartel. William Defoe is excellent as the head Black Ops.

@poompoom
Hah yeah! good gawd i must have seen the jack ryan movies like thousends of time, the hunt for red october, clear and present danger, patriot games and the sum of all fears, gotta love tom clanceys movies, to bad he havent made one since ages, i am wondering what happened to "without remorse" movie which is in development since a long time now, i know the novel is already out but the movie seems to be on hold?

Well, first of all you need to open the primary heightmap raw with photoshop and edit the size of the terrain from 1025 to 1024 pixels and resave it into a new 16bit raw file now you can import this " 16bit camera raw" in geocontrol as i am not on my pc atm i can only tell ya there is a import terrain function somewhere in the menu bar of the programm, after that you just need to choose a coloring methode from the lisr and export the image as jpg, bmp or png with that overlay image you can let tpaint generate tbe colormaps with the colorbig.tga it creates when you make a test generation witb delte temporary files disabled :-) let me know when you need anything else i just wrote this out of my head quick from my smartphone ^^

I love the JONES map look. It's just naturally appealing to the eye. wink.gif
