I was thinking someone wrote a bullet penetration tut in this forum. I believe it was Spartan because it's a feature of his mod, after many searches I cannot find that thread anywhere in this forum.

Anyone have this information, or a link to the thread?

EDIT: Additional Info found on subject...

In Depth Discussion.

Found Spartan's Old Explanation Thread... smile.gif

rem ---BeginComp:DefaultPenetrateComp ---
ObjectTemplate.createComponent DefaultPenetrateComp
ObjectTemplate.penetrate.allowSolidPenetration 1
ObjectTemplate.penetrate.allowLiquidPenetration 1

its that

and in the materials you gotta make objects penetrable. and projeciles like material 38(bullets) penentrable and buildings(i forget what #) penetrable easy peasy. and you increase deviation so bullets kinda stray off slightly when going through stuff

Awesome, thank you! smile.gif Any other good tips or basics I should know?

So I take it with the right type of coding, I can make certain weapons have penetration power and others not on certain materials? Like say pistols through concrete walls no, but Heavy Mgs through concrete yes.

I think I'll add this to Heady's "Things you want to know" sticky. Considering it's popularity who wouldn't want a little "CoD" in their BF2 (even though BF2 did it first, albeit in a much more limited form)?

That would be the material settings I would think.

The editor has all the tools to tweak and change the numbers, and its in chart form.

The most interesting files in that regard are located in /common/Materials/materialManagerDefine.con and materialManagerSettings.con

ID 1000 and up are 'penetrable' - it should be sufficient to change the material mapping in the tweak for a target object to use these materials. ( and of course make your projectiles penetrating )

behind a concrete wall

That points to a blunder when setting up the materials for that wall. Check the tweak file for the used materials ( or slap it into the coders face )

Better not as it might have unwanted sideeffects. Its easier to change the characteristics in the projectile tweak than to globally alter a material which might be in use elsewhere.
