Everyone likes to zip across their faverite map at 6x the speed of sound. so heres how!
(like my attempt to make this intresting? tongue.gif )

Go ahead and locate the folder for you aircraft located in .....\modname\objects_server.zip\vechicles\air\your plane here and open the yourplane.tweak with notepad or my faverite Crimson editor.

now search for these lines
CODE

ObjectTemplate.setMinRotation 0/0/-600
ObjectTemplate.setMaxRotation 0/0/3000
ObjectTemplate.setMaxSpeed 0/0/100
ObjectTemplate.setAcceleration 0/0/600
ObjectTemplate.setTorque 200
ObjectTemplate.setDifferential 25
ObjectTemplate.setGearUp 0.7
ObjectTemplate.setGearDown 0.3
ObjectTemplate.horizontalSpeedMagnifier 2

now these are pretty self explanatory but if you have no idea just up the acceleration and torque but do it in small increments as you may shoot off and have no control.

asfaik, isn't that for helicopters only?

Anyway, I can't seem to get my F16 to get past 880 (kph?)
I've tried to tweak the plane in general (succeeding with the F-18, F-15, F-35, F-117, F-22) but not the F-16.

CODE
ObjectTemplate.setMinRotation 0/0/-600
ObjectTemplate.setMaxRotation 0/0/2000
ObjectTemplate.setMaxSpeed 0/0/260
ObjectTemplate.setAcceleration 0/0/600
ObjectTemplate.setInputToRoll PIThrottle
ObjectTemplate.setAutomaticReset 1
ObjectTemplate.setEngineType c_ETPlane
ObjectTemplate.setTorque 300
ObjectTemplate.setDifferential 25
ObjectTemplate.setGearUp 0.7
ObjectTemplate.setGearDown 0.3
ObjectTemplate.noEffectAtPerpSpeed 140

Help?

And as far as speed goes in general ( at least in my play tweaking) changing up the setDifferential also allows you to go faster...

Well, My original intent for this thread was "how to change the aircraft speed"....Yanko just forgot to add a part for the heli's...they are aircraft too! wink.gif Would be nice if the tut was expanded to cover all of the handling aspects of aircraft, too. Eh, oh well.

There's quite a few things that can effect aircraft speed, several different settings in the engine, and the vehicle's drag, and possible something I can't remember. You'll probably have to decrease the drag on the vehicle before it'll go any faster.

Vehicle's drag is set to 0.05, while the mass is at default 17000 (I'm assuming it doesn't really have much of an effect on speed, unless you're plowing into a tank and pushing it across the map. laugh.gif)

Other than that, I've tweaked the handling of the ailerons, so it handles more acrobatically, and what nots...but somehow, the F-16 is limited to 800, (900 with afterburners.)

Yes its only for choppers
I would of quoted the above post, but appaerntly your not allowed to do that here

Drag can also be coded to include the 3 x/y/z settings, and adjusted accordinly for each direction of movement

Mass does effect speed, just like it would in the real world of engineering

Try looking at the jets in mods like POE2 they go over 1000 and compare the settings to your jets. I got my cobra and blackhawk to go a more real speed by copying over POE2s rotarhead values and torque and differential settings. It didn't work exactly the same for other helis. but for those two it works well.
Also if you have AIX compare your jets to the firefox and blackbird. they go well over 1000.

i think the F-12 and Firefox capped out at 1600 at low level, according to their hud displays (which may or may not be accurate)

We have them breaking 2000 here, but I only deal with helis so I don´t know how it was done. Decreasing drag maybe?
