i'll post a record of the Mustang's progress here. any community members submitting sounds for this project can notify me via this thread.
ok so far i have been adding insignia and invasion stripes etc. just to gauge its difficulty due to the way i splattered its UV's all over the texture sheet: ![]() ![]() i have tried to leave the area for the plane's artwork name (Old Crow, etc.) free and clear for repainting, but unfortunately to get a cleaner unwrap i ended up with a seam that went smack bang right through where the side roundel goes, see pic: ![]() ...and there is a little bit of jiggery-pokery on things like the wheel doors etc. too as you can see at bottom right. this obviously won't be a problem if you're *removing* the stripes, only changing them or adding something else to the same area. there's a LOOOONG way to go yet -------------------- ![]() |

copy of post in old WIP thread, re requirements for submitting sounds. (no sounds = no Mustang release!)
----------------------------------------------------------- there is a problem of legality here; i am currently using my Be-12 engine noise but i wouldn't send it out with that. i have some here i was intending to use but they are someone else's creations and although they're fine for my own use, i can't distribute those. so - i'll make you a deal. if someone finds me: decent quality clean legal constant matching stereo wavs for startup, idle, high RPM and heavy load wavs for both a P-51 and a Bf-109E (the P-51 needs something to fight) then the community can have it, or them, when the Bf-109 eventuates... let me reiterate the sounds criteria: decent quality - no thin wispy sounding crap, nice throaty sounds only clean - no background noise legal - no copyright, and you are going to give me a disclaimer so that if it IS copyright, your quoit gets razed and not mine constant - idle and the high RPM/load RPM sounds must be held at a constant speed, neither accelerating or decelerating (i have to loop these, remember) matching - the sounds need to be able to work together to make a whole, with none being obviously different to the others in either quality, timbre etc. stereo - for the 1p position. i can make mono 3p from the 1 sounds ...welcome to my treadmill. get to it. ----------------------------------------------------------- -------------------- ![]() |

I wonder where mods like BGF and FH2 got their aircraft engine sounds? If you aren't able to get anyone here to give you usable engine sounds, you might want to try and see where those guys got theirs....
QUOTE (no sounds = no Mustang release!) But how about a mute mustang for those of us who can add unreleasable sounds to it ourselves? I'll try to come up with something releasable for the p51, and bf109 some time.... I can't guarantee anything though. Engine sounds, aren't something I've got much experience with. But if you'd like some .50cal machine gun sounds for it, that I know I can do. -------------------- |

I have a bunch of aircraft sounds including the Merlin on my HD, but unfortunately I'm in the process of moving to Europe so my household goods won't be delivered for at least a month and a half!
Maybe someone else can step up in that time. |

QUOTE But how about a mute mustang for those of us who can add unreleasable sounds to it ourselves? nope. it complicates things hugely for me to do the extra work involved in cleaning up a model to make it presentable to the community, i.e. all LoD's and cockpit stuff present etc. and turns what was a stress-free enjoyable play around into yet another grind. if other people want this, then they can bloody well do some of the footwork. you yourself have contributed heaps, so i'd prefer the sounds to come from another source. in fact a couple of your WW2 map remakes would be an obvious home for these, but i would probably need to do a Zero as well... argh, right now i feel like i'm the only modeler here. Looking very nice! It could be cool to have a good dogfight at Wake Island with these babies
back to Topic: I'm not sure but I can talk to some friends if anyone can make this sounds for you. Be sure I do my best to find one how can make this. -------------------- |

WOW that looks outstanding!, would love to help out on this, but i cant even get a re-skin to work properly let alone generate high quality sounds.
As for modeling , its something ive always been interested in doing but i'd imagine it be years before i could produce anything that actually resembled something lol. I do like the approach of involving the community, and the community taking some responsibility for its progress. -------------------- "MechWarrior 4 Mercs 3.1,get it at www.mektek.net"

There's always airshow videos on youtube (and other video sites), maybe some good sounds there?

There's always airshow videos on youtube (and other video sites), maybe some good sounds there? Almost never is there a usable engine sound in a vid...Either crap quality, background noise, or it just can't be made to loop properly....Usually all those reasons. -------------------- |

guys, many of you are missing the point. several of you have PM'ed me with COPYRIGHTED sounds and suggested i do a sneaky. let's get one thing clear:
I ALREADY HAVE MANY COPYRIGHTED SOUNDS, supply is not an issue. but i will NOT send out any copyrighted sounds. am i being a bit of a smacktard? you bet. if you guys wanting this plane to go public means i now have to do all this extra crap like rivets: ![]() ...and cockpits, extra unwrapping and other stuff i wouldn't bother with for my own use, then i feel NO GUILT AT ALL about making some of you guys do some legwork. let's have no more suggestions of sneakily avoiding copyright please thanks to Transportologist for attempting to get some sounds the PROPER way, much appreciated. -------------------- ![]() |

QUOTE clive i gotta say, you dont seem to happy about releasing her no, i'm not. but if i get the sounds sorted out, i will release it. after this though, anything could happen. i need a holiday and this certainly isn't it. Zero-rails will NOT be modular because they mount directly on the underside of the wing and would look ridiculous without shadows. likewise, having shadows would look equally bad with no rails. Zero-rails are fairly minimal and unobtrusive, unlike the pylons/TERs on modern jets. the same deal applies for the droptank/bomb pylons; they are only a little bulge and shouldn't annoy you too much (but i wasn't overly concerned about fitting these at all; i'm happy with just guns+rockets) pic of Zero-rails. it's really just 2 little lumps per rocket: ![]() (image host: http://www.zenoswarbirdvideos.com) -------------------- ![]() |

Awesome work clive! Sorry about the sounds though.. No way of getting permissions for some of the copyrighted sounds?
Anyway.. only release it if you like.. No pressure.. as long as you post a pic of the (in your opinion finished) beauty in flight -------------------- Kind regards, Thomas ![]() ![]() Remember: It is too late to regret, and too soon to worry ... always! |
