Anyone tried these game downloads?

http://extcamp.doublefusion.com/US_Air_For...y_Air_Force.htm

They are old games, but are they worthwhile? The Suffering, Area 51, Rise and Fall Civilizations at War

Free Games/abandon ware is great and this is the king of all free games...

MechWarrior 4 :Mercenaries

http://www.mektek.net/

You will see the download info on the right hand side of the home page.

Theres still a lot of activity online, leagues in full swing and Mektek are constantly updating with patch fixes and new game content.
There hundreds of maps available for download with many servers hosting these maps in open servers.

Some people have had problems getting this installed, as Mektek have launched their MTX software for autopatching ect, but if you read the installation info correctly its not difficult at all.

Hopefully some of you will take the time to Download and try, there is a steep learning curve but im online most nights and would only be to happy to help with some training.

Good Hunting.

Let's all remember the roots of computer gaming and have a go at Space War!, possibly the earliest known computer game ever made (the initial working version was created in 1961!). Naturally, you will see a resemblance to many later games like Asteroids, Star Control, et cetera, ad infinitum:

If you're on Steam and enjoyed Half-Life back then, BlackMesa is the recreation of Half-Life using the Half-Life 2 engine. Its a breathtaking adventure even if you played Half-Life back then till your eyes were square :-)
Epic Levels, bad soldiers, ninja fighters, scientists with questionable ethics and of course Gordon Freeman in the middle of trouble. Surely, we have a lot of aliens,too...

You need the 'Source SDK Base 2007' from Steam and then a download of about 3,5 GB from one of the BlackMesa mirrors...

Just a few shots:

but it's only the first half, isn't it? or did they finish off the rest too?

regardless, it is very well done. half-life is a great story and this remake just makes it better

Yes, BlackMesa ends when activating the interdimensional thingamajic. The team has promised to continue but so far this hasn't happen.

Been playing a really good mod for Crysis ...

Nuclear Cataclysm

Has all its own quality voice acting. There's the very occasional bug, mostly caused by running in dx9 so don't do that, and occasional rough edge but apart from the the game play reminds me of the original Crysis levels.

Anyone tried Call to Arms on Steam ? It has a free version. First time I tried it a while back I did not give it enough of a chance. It has good AI game play (Skirmish, human player vs AI). I played it again today. Really nice sound effects. Make sure to change the default sound levels as the firing sounds are too low. Quite a few different maps available. I could not change the game mode but don't think I was hitting the right button.

Plus. NOTICE THIS ! It says on their news page that you can go into first person for soldiers and vehicles and take complete control. I have not tried this yet. EDIT: Here is FPS mode. Pretty good ! Of course I find this out 5 minutes before I have to go out. More tomorrow I guess AR15firing.gif

Oh and BTW. Forget any connection with Men of War which I've tried and did not like it. This is very different.

To get started remember to double right click to select cover position and make sure squad moves straight to that position once they've been ordered or they just hang around at the spawn point.

Came across this by accident.
It's old news but "The Operative: No One Lives Forever" and "No One Lives Forever 2: A Spy in HARM's Way" are caught in Ownership Legal-Hell. Article at Rock Paper Shotgun. Night Dive tried to get the rights to adapt and repack the games for modern systems but because of the unknown status of the ownership (and no one willing to spend the cash on lawyers to decide ownership) they were forced to give up.

But a bunch of fans have patched the games for current OS's and have a free download of them at: NOLF Revival

In this FPS the central character (that you play as) is a woman. Cate Archer - master thief turned spy. The games are from the 1990's and have cut-scenes that you shouldn't skip (they explain what's going on). But they have some good single-player fun (imo). Some levels you can just blast your way though but some you can only *Sneak* through. You get spotted on a sneak level - you die. As Cate (you) gains skill there are new weapons options which means you can replay a level differently if you want to. And the options vary based on what difficulty you chose at the start and in-game (your difficulty can go up based on choices in cut-scenes). The story is set in the 1960's and half the fun is listening to various Evil-doing Henchmen talking about "current" pop-culture things as you hide nearby.
(Me being a teenager in the 1960's I understood all the references.)

I bought both of these back in-the-day but downloaded the new kits for the no-CD execution.

These are designed for single-player but can be played as Death-Match. NOLF2 does have a weak co-op game play (2-4 or 2-6 players, I forget) as well.

aha, i got both of those about a year or so ago (even bought the NOLF Prima guide from ebay) but there was a protect-'em-up mission that i never managed to get past, i forget why.

but even now there's certainly no lack of fans for the games, still very highly regarded

Just got a new internet provider and am exploring now without fear of losing all my bandwidth (yay!) smile.gif.

I love retro and stumbled across this youtube channel for a site called PixelProspector.

https://www.youtube.com/user/PixelProspector/videos

While his youtube channel shows games new and old/ paid and free, his website offers links to all kinds of free indie games. cool.gif

NOLF is a bit nasty even on the lowest difficulty settings. You're going to fail a lot. You just have to keep trying. And things aren't always straight forward. Early on in the game when you're protecting the Ambassador from assassins when you change to the street-level room the closed window can be opened and it provides a better view. Later it's best to use stealth (holster your gun as much as possible) when going through the hotel until you meet Bruno. But, the return trip through the same hotel (even though you think it's same level) must be played differently. Abandon stealth and just run like hell. It's better to scare the dickens out of the civilians than to let one die.
That's the way NOLF is. Most of the time you can't use the same technique from one level to the next.
