i'll post a record of the Mustang's progress here. any community members submitting sounds for this project can notify me via this thread.

ok so far i have been adding insignia and invasion stripes etc. just to gauge its difficulty due to the way i splattered its UV's all over the texture sheet:

i have tried to leave the area for the plane's artwork name (Old Crow, etc.) free and clear for repainting, but unfortunately to get a cleaner unwrap i ended up with a seam that went smack bang right through where the side roundel goes, see pic:

...and there is a little bit of jiggery-pokery on things like the wheel doors etc. too as you can see at bottom right. this obviously won't be a problem if you're *removing* the stripes, only changing them or adding something else to the same area. there's a LOOOONG way to go yet

clive, i found a start up and maybe can be used as normal engine sound, not shutoff though.

This is the mp3 sound, 16 bit, 40.1 Hz.

no copyright (i think, this is where i got it: http://www.therecordist.com/pages/downloads.html Airplanes - propdriven, 'Prop Plane, Cessna 172 Start Engine')

cheers, that's not quite meaty enough for the P-51 but is a very good sound nonetheless so i'll keep it around for later

i already have a complete set i think for the Mustang; i'll get onto doing the sound when i finish with the modeling and texture

As usual, the Mustang looks great. On a personal note, the absolute best aspect of this aircraft is the name on the side. Bravo, good sir, bravo!

not you, doofus. the unsufferable sunny ray of light that spawned my children. (btw, gamers talk about being a 'jet whore' or a 'tank whore' so i must assume that the term is acceptable publicly, and to name a plane 'Filth-ridden Old Whore' would warrant no more than a cursory glance. not that i would ever call her that; i wouldn't want to defame the grunge-encrusted old cow)

i haven't forgotten about the Mustang but there's a little grille up on the lower front cowl that's being really annoying; it distorts badly from some angles because it's right on a seam

it's a very characteristic feature (can see half of it at lower right in this pic) but rather than scrap my work and rebuild the entire nose and then unwrap it all again, i'm tempted just to leave the durn thing off or move it a little

i've since found a few examples where there is only the grille plate but with no holes, or more commonly, no plate there at all on either side. oddly enough i have some shots of supposedly the same plane (Little Horse) - on one pic set it has grilles on both cowl sides, but in the other set it has none. very twilight zone-esque

...maybe it's a seasonal 'Summer-only' thing? either way, if i can't fix it in photoshop then the grille dies, i reckon. RIP grille

personally clivewil i think if you can move the grill great, but a grill is such a small detail im sure no one would miss it to much just my thought btw the plane looks epic cant wait to dogfight with it, lol see if i can take down that annoying su47 that keeps ripping apart my a10's but on a side note being a modder myself not to this game so much but more of the command & conquer series i must thank you for the work you put into your models and the sustainment of this mod, as i know it takes much time and skill so thank you for you awesome planes and everything else you have done -Deadlight
